The Catholic Parish of Epping, within the Diocese of Brentwood, dates back to 1932 when the Bishop of Brentwood offered the parish to the Canons Regular of the Immaculate Conception. Prior to that, Catholics in Epping had been served by visiting priests from various places. A presbytery and land for a church were purchased by a trust established by Mr Jack Burgess, a wealthy benefactor, whose son had recently been ordained a CRIC. |

The first church was constructed from an ex-Army wooden hut within weeks of the arrival of the parish priest, Fr Chalumeaux, and his curate, Fr. Burgess. Mass was first celebrated in this church on Christmas Day 1932. |

The cold and draughty wooden church served the community for over 20 years, during which time the parishioners worked tirelessly to raise funds for a permanent church. | |||||||||||
| The foundation stone of the new church was laid on 25th June 1954 and the church was formally blessed and opened by the bishop on December 7th 1954. | |||||||||||

| As the community has increased in size, to its current estimate of ……… and the liturgy has changed, so the church has adapted. In 2004, the year of church’s Golden Jubilee, 10 new stained glass panels were installed. These were designed by Liz Asher and Andy Smith. |
